(TRENTON) - Angela V. McKnight and Nicholas Chiaravalloti took their oath of office on Tuesday to represent the 31st Legislative District in the New Jersey Assembly.
McKnight and Chiaravalloti were sworn-in during an afternoon ceremony at the War Memorial in Trenton. They were among ten first-term democrats to take their oaths at the start of the 217th Legislature.
"I am proud to serve Hudson County residents in this capacity," said McKnight, who is the first African American woman to serve in the Assembly as a representative of Hudson County. "I am eager to get to work on legislation that will improve the lives of all generations in New Jersey.
"It will be an honor to represent the residents of Hudson in Trenton," said Chiaravalloti. "There's much to be done in the next two years to improve the quality of life of New Jersey residents. It's time now to roll up our sleeves and get to work."
Angela V. McKnight is the Founder & CEO of the nonprofit organization, AngelaCARES, Inc. AngelaCARES, Inc. is headquartered in Jersey City, NJ with its first chapter in Las Vas, Nevada. McKnight is also a self-published author of her first book called Caregiver's Guide to Helping Seniors Eat Healthy. She currently resides in her hometown of Jersey City, New Jersey. She and her husband Anthony McKnight Sr. have two children, Ana'jah and Anthony Jr.
Nicholas Chiaravalloti is an attorney with the Law Firm of Weiner-Lesniak and works part-time at Saint Peter's University as Director of Community Engagement. Previously he served as Executive Director of the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership at Saint Peter's. Chiaravalloti was State Director to U.S. Senator Robert Menendez. In this position he oversaw operations to provide constituent services to citizens, businesses, industries, educational and healthcare institutions and non-profit organizations throughout the State of New Jersey. He worked with federal regional officials, the Office of the Governor of New Jersey, state agencies and members of the NJ congressional delegation on legislative, policy and program matters affecting the state of New Jersey.
He and his wife, Nancy Donofrio, are raising their three sons - AJ, Nico and Joshua in Bayonne.
The 31st District covers Bayonne and Jersey City.
